The District Council voted the sum of £2 for the purchase of books for distribution as prizes, and Mr. Burton kindly gave a special prize for the best regular attendance. Afterwards the children and others partook of an excellent tea provided by the parents and friends of the children. The same evening a lecture was delivered in the schoolroom by the Rev. Mr. Evans, of Gawler, on 'Four Years in America' which was numerously attended. The rev. lecturer gave some very interesting sketches of the various scenes and places of note he had visited during his four years' sojourn in that country, coupled with some very amusing Yankee anecdotes, which stirred up the risibilities of the audience. A hearty vote of thanks was given to the rev. lecturer, and so ended a very pleasant afternoon and evening. | ||
